Royal author Omid Scobie has blamed the Dutch translation of his new book for naming the alleged senior royal who made a “racist” comment about the skin color of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son.
Scobie’s biography, “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival,” was quickly removed from stores in the Netherlands Tuesday after readers noticed the error.
“The book is in several languages, and unfortunately, I do not speak Dutch,” Scobie told Dutch outlet RTL Boulevard Tuesday. “But if there are translation errors, I’m sure the publishers will have it under control.”
“I wrote and edited the English version. There’s never been a version that I’ve produced that has names in it.”
A page taken from a review copy of the book sent to Dutch journalists appears to list the person’s identity.
Additionally, Scobie claims in his book that a second person shared the same concern about the little one.
That claim was echoed by Dutch journalist Rick Evers, who told “Good Morning Britain” Wednesday that a second royal is named in the Dutch translation of the tell-all.
“The first one is very specific, the second one is a little bit vague,” he said. “They say it was a translation issue and there was some debate about how these passages were stated in the book.”
“I would say, how can you translate a name wrong? I can’t believe it’s a translation error. I read through the book and saw some passages were missing in the English version, so something has been erased during the works that have been done on the book.”
“I can’t talk about the details,” a spokesperson for the publishing house told the Daily Mail Tuesday.
“We have, however, received a request to put the title on hold, and that is what we have done,” the rep continued. “We are awaiting further instructions. I do not know how long this will be.”
Prior to the book’s release, Scobie, 42, said he would not be publishing the name of the senior royal accused of making a racist remark about Archie.
Scobie claimed libel laws prevented him from naming them.
Markle made the shocking allegations during the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.
At the time of the bombshell sit-down interview, the “Suits” alum claimed that her son would not have a royal title or be entitled to security.
When asked if that was “because of his race” — Markle nodded and appeared to agree.
She then alleged that there were “several” conversations with an unidentified family member about the color of Archie’s skin.
“About how dark your baby is going to be?” Winfrey, 69, asked, to which Markle responded, “Potentially, and what that would mean or look like.”
Harry, 39, backed up his wife’s claims, telling Winfrey: “That conversation I am never going to share, but at the time it was awkward. I was a bit shocked.”
